My Notes: Advanced footage stabilisation in DaVinci Resolve
Advanced way to stabilize your footage in DaVinci Resolve
This technique is useful for tricky shots, handheld footage, or clips with rotation, where the Edit page stabilizer struggles.
– Go to the Edit page
Select the clip you want to stabilize, then switch to the Fusion page.– Add a Tracker
Select the MediaIn node, press Shift + Spacebar, type Tracker, and add it.– Place tracking points
Move the first tracking point to a high-contrast area that is not moving.
Add a second tracking point on the opposite side, also on a static, high-contrast area.
This helps Resolve understand both position and rotation.– Track the motion
Set the tracker to Best Match, click Track Forward, then Track Reverse.– Add a Transform node
Add a Transform (XF) node after the tracker.– Link stabilization data
Right-click Center, connect it to Tracker 1 Steady Position.
Right-click Angle, connect it to Tracker 1 Steady Angle.– Fix the edges
Increase the Size and reposition the frame to remove empty areas caused by stabilization. This gives you more control than the Edit page stabilizer, especially for complex motion, and the result usually feels more natural and precise.
